it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a small public elementary school in the Bronx, NY. Our school is committed to providing all students with a well-rounded curriculum that engages students in hands-on, project-based learning as well as developing social skills and building character.
50% of our student population are from low-income families.
We work hard to ensure that economics doesn't get in the way of a quality education. Our students are eager to learn. They need a hand up not a hand out.
My Project
The use of educational videos are a powerful and useful learning tool in the classroom. With the current state of our world, video is more important than ever to keep us connected as learners and as a community. Research shows that students respond better to learning from familiar faces and voices, which is why teachers like me, everywhere are creating their own videos.
I lacked an understanding of the importance of lighting and audio to keep students engaged in virtual learning.
Lighting and sound are often overlooked when creating video content. It is very easy for students to lose focus or become disengaged when they can't hear or see clearly. How many of us have heard students saying, "I can't hear you or that picture is blurry." Within seconds, students can check out of learning.
Improving my visual and auditory equipment will make my videos more appealing to the multi-sensory approach to learning and is a game-changer in providing high-quality professional video experiences for my students. I've been using an older mac book internal speakers and the sound often comes through in a crackling, choppy way. Although, the use of natural light is the best light many times I am not able to begin recording videos until night. These basic supplies will help tremendously in creating and recording online and live lessons by providing good quality audio, lighting, and allow me to be creative with virtual backgrounds regardless of the time of day.
There is no replacement for in-person learning however educational videos are the new normal and this equipment will provide me with what I need to keep my students actively engaged and learning.
