This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach kindergarten at a Title I school. Our district helps our low socioeconomic community by providing free breakfast and lunch to students. Most students at my school have not had the privilege to attend pre-K. They also may not have the learning experiences they need prior to kindergarten.
I have 18 blended eager to learn kindergarten students.
Several of my students are Non-English speakers when entering my classroom. Our school caters to over 500 diverse students. We are an all Kindergarten School with 27 classroom teachers. We strive to provide a safe and effective learning environment for all of our students.
My Project
Help me light up our classroom with soft lighting. Fluorescent lights are hard on our eyes and distracting for students especially students with sensory issues. For safety and for students to be able to see clearly, lights must be kept on at all times. Low lights can cause students to strain their eyes and it can make it hard for students to be productive. Keeping all the fluorescent lights on causes headaches and glare on shiny surfaces that distracts students with sensory issues. In my teaching career, I have seen how my students work with florescent lighting vs. soft lighting. In the soft light setting, I have observed a better working environment as well as better behavior out of my children.
Softer lights will help my students to feel more comfortable in our classroom as we are learning.
It allows for a calmer environment which will then allow for less behavior issues within my classroom.
We have had soft lighting before within my classroom but now the lights are starting to not work so we are having to have the florescent lights on more often. My children in my classroom would really like to have soft lighting that will work within our classroom.
Thank you so much for considering funding lights for our classroom.
