My Students
My students attend a selective enrollment school in the city of Chicago. They are high-achieving young men and women who have worked very hard to be admitted to a school that challenges them to live every day with courage, compassion, character, and curiosity--our four Cs.
Donating to my project will allow me to further enrich the academic and personal lives of my students.
As a Chicago Public School, our high school is perennially under-funded relative to suburban schools in the Chicago area, and any additional funding is greatly appreciated.
My Project
The aquarium club at my high school has been very fortunate to inherit used tanks from generous donors, but sometimes those tanks do not come with all of the necessary gear or have gear that is no longer working. This project will allow two of our largest tanks to be lighted brightly enough for the students to replicate Amazonian aquascapes that will help their fish to feel at home. One aquarium inhabits a lounge outside our counselor's offices and acts as a therapeutic aquarium. The other is in a science lab and is a new tank for 9 freshmen to build. It will house New World cichlids from the Amazon Basin.
