This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a special education teacher. I work with children who are on the Autism Spectrum Disorder. My group of kids is unique and special in many different ways. Before I begin talking about my kids, I would like to introduce my school. The school neighborhood isn't exactly kid-friendly but we as educators try our best to keep our students as safe as can be. Luckily, we have an amazing support staff. Without our administrators, we wouldn't be the team that we are! My students are part of the autism program at our school.
Each child is characterized by difficulties in behavior, social interaction, communication and sensory sensitivities.
These challenges that they experience lead to levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. All three students are unique and their needs are reflected differently. It is my job as their teacher to understand their individual needs and to be able to make appropriate accommodations for each student to help them become successful.
My Project
The use of classroom dividers will help my students stay focused and will help eliminate distractions. Our classroom is divided into centers and it is very hard for my little students to stay concentrated while being able to see what is happening around the room. Classroom dividers are a great asset in a special education classroom especially working with autistic children.
Key to a successful classroom is keeping the focus of the children.
Being able to do so by using dividers will help encourage maximal achievement with my students. My students and I will be able to use these dividers during Language, Math, Science, Social Studies and during trialing!
