This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have 30 special education Pre-K students. These are some of the greatest and most courageous students. They attend school in one of the highest poverty districts in the state. Yet, with multiple disabilities and adversities, that does not dissuade them in any way in learning.
They know their teachers care, but we lack the full resources to teach them to their fullest extent.
My students are just beginning life. They deserve a break too. Will you please help them? Thanks! We all really appreciate your support.
My Project
We need to have a light table for a center in our classroom. You may be wondering, “what is a light table and why do I need one?”
A light table is a translucent, flat surface, such as a tabletop- with a light source underneath, the light shines up towards the top of the table.
Students then construct pictures, patterns, images, etc., using tiles.
You may be familiar with the concept of light tables as a drafting tool, but they have quickly become popular in early childhood classrooms everywhere.
How will this impact my students' learning? Great question!
The educational benefits of a Light Table are numerous: a light table can be used to enhance literacy, math, and writing skills, in fun and playful ways. Children are naturally drawn to the gentle glow of the light table, and they tend to stay there for long periods of time, which is great for stretching those budding attention spans and imagination. With the lighted tiles, students will be able to build, construct, form patterns, count the tiles -- the possibilities for playing and learning with a light table are endless!
