My Students

Students at my school love to learn, and can acquire so much more knowledge if only we had the resources. Some of these students are described as limited English students, delinquent, migratory students, or students with disabilities. The total enrollment is approximately 776 students. The ethnic composition is comprised of approximately 62% Black, 11% White, 20% Hispanic, .2% American Indian, 3% Asian, and 3% two or more races. In my school, 64.5% of the students are eligible for free or reduced meals.

One of the ways I want to inspire a love of learning for my students is through STEAM-based instruction with innovative technology.

As teachers, we need to learn and adapt to new technologies to stay ahead of the curve and prepare our students for their futures.

My Project

According to a study in the International Journal of Science Education, 65% of scientists and STEM graduate students said they developed their interest in elementary school. We must encourage our students to be curious and innovative in order to help them develop as problem solvers and critical thinkers. 21st Century learning and critical thinking encompass students engaging in collaborative activities, using technology to enhance learning and digital literacy, and using critical thinking skills to problem solve. It is imperative that schools teach the aforementioned skills to help students thrive in today's technologically-driven world. This type of learning encourages higher order thinking, flexibility, creativity and expert use of technologies.

3D Doodler pens are innovative and can be integrated seamlessly into the curriculum to bridge the gap between the abstract and concrete using advanced technology to help make learning fun, exciting, and richly rewarding.

When students create 3D figures based on a concept learned, they are able to comprehend abstract concepts using concrete meanings to support their understanding. For example, students learning about potential and kinetic energy can bring these two concepts to life by building a 3D roller coaster with a 3D pen and testing the two types of energies using a marble on the roller coaster. Not only are students engaged and having fun, but they are immersed in hands-on inquiry and exploration.
