I challenge you to find students as dedicated as the ones at my high school. I co-advise my building's student council, made up of a core group of volunteers in grades 9-12 who want to make a difference in our school building and in the district.
Our student council's major responsibilities include planning homecoming activities, hosting blood drives, and organizing community service projects.
My Project
It isn't a surprise that the pandemic is taking its toll on the mental health of teenagers across the nation. My students have more bad days than good, and making it through the school day is a challenge for some teens. Student council is hosting an event in December when we will have holiday cards available for students to send to friends and teachers. We would like to replicate this event during the second semester.
Students will be able to select a card from a variety of designs and write an uplifting message to a friend or teacher.
Student council members will sort and organize the cards and make "special deliveries" to the recipients. We believe that these cards and messages will bring our students some much needed joy and help boost morale around the building.
