My Students

Albert Einstein quotes, "The mind that opens to a new idea never returns to its original size." Therefore, my goal is to provide my diverse learners with meaningful projects and instructional resources to address the disabilities that impede their learning, such as attention deficit, dyslexia, social-emotional, and autism. Their past experiences of failure in school have outweighed their successes as they also deal with socioeconomic ills within their communities, making the burden to learn more difficult.

Nevertheless, despite their circumstances, my students are inquisitive, creative, hopeful, and eager to come to school- their haven; therefore, they know that their teacher holds their minds dear to her heart and will continue to discover innovative ways to challenge them to think and learn!

Aligning each student to the appropriate instructional resources, my students can grasp concepts through a combination of visual stimuli and usage of hands-on materials, as well as respond to intervention through interactive, arts-infused, project-based, hands-on learning activities. With time and investment in exploring how they learn, my students will leave my classroom with a newfound growth mindset!

My Project

My students have begun the school year in the midst of the pandemic; yet, the community still faces violence among youth. My students are left with unanswered questions and want to talk about their trauma and how they can become a change agent. Bringing podcast equipment to our classroom, which promotes both an academic and creative environment, will give my students a platform to tell their stories and share their voices to positively impact others.

Social and Emotional Learning is often read through books; however, my scholars will take it a step further to lift their voices and speak up about the importance of self-awareness/esteem, responsible decision-making and establishing interpersonal relationships.

While, I do not have the answers to the reasons for community adversity, as an educator with a background in media and experience using the arts to transform lives with positive impact, I can provide my students with the tools to cope with both uncertainty and changes within our world. This platform will help my scholars to also look within and among others to become the change they want to see.
