Lifelong Learning in the Arts

I need to continue to develop new skills and instructional approaches to serve my diverse populations of students. The NAEA Convention provides sessions that showcase the latest in research, teaching, and assessment in art education.

My Students

I teach a racially, economically and cognitively diverse student body at an arts themed elementary magnet school. My students are budding artists who explore, experiment, create and evaluate works of art, both their own and that of others. They are excited and enthusiastic learners.

My goal is to help each student discover his or her unique voice and vision while learning technical skills, critical thinking and gaining an understanding of each art discipline.

I truly enjoy helping each student to find his or her creative path and consider teaching art an intrinsic part of my own work as an artist.

My Project

Attending the NAEA Conference will develop and expand the studio practices in my classroom. As the only visual arts teacher in my school, it will give me an amazing opportunity to collaborate and learn from other art educators from around the country.

The conference provides a three-day focus on best studio practices, instruction and assessment via seminars, interactive learning through hands-on workshops and museum and art studio tours.

This will allow me to prepare robust arts learning, plan demonstrations and assessments, and create a space where my students will be able to practice working like artists. The convention will also expand on my professional learning at the 2018 TAB Summer Institute.
