My Students
Our middle school is a Title I school and many of the students come from low income families. At our school, 98% of students receive free or reduced price meals. Over 30% of our students receive special education services and many others function well below grade level. The total enrollment is just over 250 students. Our Low Incidence students have multiple disabilities that impedes their ability to fully participate in the general education setting. We are transitioning back to a full virtual learning platform.
As our school transitions back from virtual learning it is imperative that teachers and students have what they need to accomplish the tasks associated with learning and continued growth in academics and social emotional learning.
My Project
Our classroom is made up of students with a variety of special needs. From Autism to Physical/Mental handicaps. Our teacher purchases items and tasks from many different Teacher pay Teacher sellers. She also creates her own tasks for us to complete.
These task boxes help us to learn life skills like making change, creating recipes, and steps for building or sorting items.
We will learn to calculate change for purchases we make. When we learn this skill we will move on to creating shopping lists from menus. We even get to shop for ingredients to make our own meals and learn to cook them. There are a lot of steps involved in cooking a delicious cake, so it takes several task cards to make one complete task pack.
The cool thing is that when we master cooking a recipe at school, Mrs. Gann will send the cards home so we can make it for our family.
