This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This is my second year teaching in a self-contained life skills classroom. My first year teaching in this room, I realized there wasn’t a lot of modern educational materials that were individualized for the students in the room. My students deserve a classroom where they are provided with appropriate lessons and tasks. Laminators are super helpful to provide reusable materials that can be easily modified for different levels. This includes materials like task boxes, worksheets, file folders, and vocational tasks. Lamination can also help with creating student behavior materials like token boards or checklists. One of the most important life skills we teach is how to do simple, practical tasks that are important for fostering independence. Laminating would be a great skill for my students to learn and help out with for potential vocational reasons.

Having a in-class laminator would save time when creating educational materials and would make it easier to teach laminating as a vocational skill.

Providing educational materials that are properly modified and geared towards specific life skills helps my students learn best. These materials can also help my students work on social and vocational skills. Unfortunately, our school has only one laminator that is old and difficult for students to use. This laminator will help to more easily create materials that have helped my students progress in essential skills.

Being in a self-contained special education classroom means illness and infection spread around easily. As school progresses and the weather gets colder, disinfecting wipes help me and my paraprofessional team keep our classroom disinfected. If one person gets sick, we all do!
