it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
At our Title 1 equity-focused school, we are excited to embark on a transformative project called Fostering Friendship. Our mission is to create a Life Skills Lab, an innovative experiential learning environment designed to empower students on the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) by providing opportunities to practice essential daily living skills.
The Life Skills Lab will be a simulated apartment, offering a practical space where students can learn and refine skills such as cooking, cleaning, washing clothes, making beds, and folding laundry.
By engaging in these activities, ASD students will gain confidence, independence, and the ability to navigate real-world scenarios with greater ease.
A unique aspect of this project is the collaboration between General Education and ASD students. As they work side-by-side, they not only acquire valuable life skills but also develop meaningful, lifelong friendships. This inclusive environment fosters empathy, understanding, and mutual respect, enriching the educational experience for all.
To bring this vision to life, we are seeking support for essential items such as kitchen necessities, couches, and cooking supplies, including hot plates, convection ovens, and toasters. These tools will not only enhance the learning environment but also ensure that students have the resources they need to succeed.
