Life Skills for Students with Autism Through Cooking
Help me give my students acquire new cooking equipment for our intensive autism department's Life Skills Program. We will teach our students how to bake items for their peers birthdays and other special occasions.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We kindly request a grant to upgrade the cooking equipment within our intensive autism department's Life Skills Program. Our current supplies, showing signs of wear and age, are hindering the effectiveness of our program which serves 30 students. These cooking skills play an integral role in fostering independence for our low-income students with autism, as they often lack opportunities for skill development at home.
Accessible equipment will ensure all students, irrespective of their abilities, can actively participate and develop crucial life skills, ultimately preparing them for a more independent and fulfilling future.
The proposed grant funding, amounting to $974 will enable us to acquire modern utensils and tools. These enhancements will significantly enrich our program's curriculum by introducing a wider range of techniques and recipes.
For instance, we plan to utilize a stand mixer to teach kids how to bake delicious treats for special occasions like birthdays, enabling them to develop not only culinary skills but also social skills through the joy of sharing. We will bake breads, cookies and muffins with our newly acquired bakeware. We sincerely appreciate your consideration of our grant request and the potential impact it can have on the lives of our students.
