Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We are greeted with hugs, smiles and excitement every day, as if every day they haven't seen us for years. Every day my staff and I come to work determined to reach each of our kid's goals and with the willingness to push them to higher standards. Our days can be filled will smiles, laughter and focus and other days filled with crying, stubbornness and refusal.
At the end of the day our students are pushed to achieve the impossible, from eating, potty training, to sitting down at the table.
Exploring their environment and making functional connections is the key.
We take for granted these skills. Seeing their faces when they accomplish a task they struggled with for weeks or month but yet, they don't give up. Through consistency, practice, dedication and team work, we work together with Speech Language Therapists, Occupational and Physical therapist and a vision teacher. We have created a great class that fosters learning in every aspect.
With this being said, having appropriate equipment is essential to creating an environment that is engaging and functional. I have two different groups of items that are being requested. One is wobble chairs- which are chairs used to improve core muscles and helps with movement and attention. The resource activities chosen and mini toys have been chosen to help support communication goals. Hands-on activities and items that are relatable help enforce goals that are set. These items have been specifically chosen for our students.
