Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Each year, my students are introduced to the mathematical ideas of measurement and area through a math unit where we create our own life size zoo! We use measuring tools and real data about animal sizes to draw and cut out animals on large pieces of paper. However, the measuring tools we use (meter sticks and various measuring tapes) are borrowed from my colleagues yearly and information about animal sizes are taken from photocopied pages of a library book that I have to check out in time for the unit.
This project will give our class plenty of measuring tools to choose from and a class copy of two different books that include real data about animal sizes!
Our class will be ready for our measurement unit and have all the materials we need to be successful.
