Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in a suburban, agricultural town. Many of their parents commute to other areas for work. They are excited to be learning a language they hear spoken around them.
My students are individuals with a wide range of interests.
I have sports enthusiasts, hunting and fishing enthusiasts, dancers, actors, musicians, artists, gamers, sometimes all of those interests rolled in to one person! They are all experts at something, and it's my job to figure out what that is and help them share and pursue their passion.
My Project
Students come to the classroom with an apprehensive attitude towards reading, especially in Spanish. However, studies show that reading is one of the best ways to acquire a second language.
Inspiring a love of reading is one of my goals as my students' teacher.
Providing them with a selection of books appealing to their wide interests and needs is pivotal in meeting this goal.
The "Quien fue" and "Que fue" books appeal to students interested in historical fiction and events, while the Harry Potter series will appeal to students more interested in fantasy than the real world. These additions to our classroom library will give students more choices in selecting their silent read book.
