My students need the games Kooky Carnival: Context Clues, The Allowance Game, and Math Bingo Library to improve their math, literacy and social skills.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My third graders are struggling readers, writers, and mathematicians. As their teacher, I am not only preparing them for State Exams, and fourth grade, but also providing them life skills to help them succeed academically and in the outside world. My biggest challenge is their lack of social skills.
Aside from struggling with academics, my students struggle with family dynamics which include but are not limited to single parent households, domestic violence, and mental illnesses such as depression.
Although their home and academic circumstances are not the best, my students are eager to learn and succeed. They have set academic and personal goals for themselves and are working diligently towards achieving them.
My Project
Once the Bingo games, Context Clues Game, and The Allowance Game arrive to our classroom, students will engage in math and literacy centers. Through these games the students will not only sharpen their academic skills, but also learn life-long skills such as problem-solving, compromising, and turn-taking. Interacting in ways other than academics will continue building our community of learners.
Students will value and appreciate each other at a different level.
The knowledge, skills, and responsibility they will develop through these games will guide them in their journey as life long learners.
