Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom has been affected because some of my students do not have access to the internet. The students that are able to log in and participate, some do not benefit from the learning environment. They have baby siblings crying and screaming and it makes it very hard to focus.

Giving access to the novel while going thru the Coronavirus Pandemic will help my students make connections with the real world and the novel's character.

My goal is to make sure my students have meaningful reading material at home, where we can use to continue with our instruction and using the novel as a powerful anchor.

My Project

The books will provide the opportunity for my students to read the assigned pages and write a brief summary daily. At the beginning of our reading class, we will share what we learned from the reading. My students are English language learners. The reading will expose them to read, write, listen, and speak. Since every student will be reading the same pages, it will be exciting to hear them talk about a common topic. I would like for all my students to have access to the book, so no one would be excluded.

If we continue with virtual learning, the activities that we will do with the novel might be the only English exposure my students might have.
