it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Every year my class incubates a variety of chicken eggs. At the end of our Oviparous animals unit, and a month after their hatching, students adopt the chicks and give them forever homes. I currently have the pleasure of teaching several students who are younger siblings to those that adopted chickens in previous years. Those students have been sharing photos of their chickens with the class and it has sparked their interest in keeping chickens on campus. This is our 6th year incubating eggs, with your help, it will be our first year in which we keep several chickens on our newly tilled school garden.
Your support will provide us with a coop, food and feeders for our soon to hatch chickens.
Their presence in our school garden will be a learning experience not only for my class, but for our entire school for years to come. It will give students the opportunity to learn about ecosystems as the chickens eat unwanted insects in the garden, provide fertilizer (poop) to plants, and eat imperfect/unwanted crops we've grown. Students will learn a sense of responsibility while tending to the chickens and will further their learning about oviparous animals, eggs, life cycles and much more.
