I teach academically Gifted students at a Title 1 school in Louisiana. Many of my children qualify for free or reduced lunch and were uprooted from their homes due to hurricane Katrina.
My students range in ages from 6 to 11 years of age; I have 2nd through 5th graders. They are in a regular classroom most of the day, but come to me for various amounts of time for advanced work in English Language Arts and Math.
As a new teacher, I am trying to build my classroom supply with fun activities that engage and motivate my diverse students. My philosophy about education is simple; I want to teach kids according to their learning styles, I want ALL kids to learn, and I want school to be fun! I want to show my kids that school is about opening their minds, not filling in worksheets and taking tests.
These board games that I chose can be used with virtually all of my students. "The Ungame" is a game to help students become more self-aware and introspective, which will help them with emotional intelligence. "Apple to Apples" is a great way for them to practice learning parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs). "Name that State Game" will help them to learn about the 50 states, while increasing critical thinking strategies. Finally, "Super Sentence" is a great way for students to practice making a complete sentence, even if the sentence they create is silly! All of the games can be used by my students this year and many years to come.
Your donation will help me reach my diverse students in many ways. You can show these students that they do deserve the best and that education is fun! You can help me to meet the needs of the whole child, not just the academic side, which many of my students really need. Please consider helping my wonderful students meet their full potential!
