My Students
Fifth grade is going to be amazing this year! My students are excited about the new year in a new flexible community environment. We will start off the year with 30-32 stellar students who are ready to learn and explore new things, find their voices, and enhance their community experience in the classroom.
A student-centered community environment, creating the best atmosphere for community voice and participation, and providing the right tools are key.
The students in my class are amazed at the great opportunity they will have this year in my Disney-themed classroom, to have a student-centered learning experience, with a lot of hands-on activities, being part of and understanding of a functioning community. With my style of teaching, I try very hard to help the students work through ideas and strategies outside of just textbooks and worksheets. This focus on the students helps engage them to have fun while learning new things.
So, hats off to my new class! It's going to be an adventurous learning year filled with lots of teaching moments with life connections in all subjects. Did I mention they are amazing? Thought so!
My Project
My students will gain a higher connection through math by applying real-life experiences with math manipulatives that they can connect with. The fraction blocks will help in many ways in comparing equivalent fractions, adding and subtracting fractions, and give a basis for multiplying and dividing fractions. Then, using the foam sheets, we can use these for visual applications in other examples.
Through the fraction blocks and the foam sheets, the students will be able to expand their level of understanding and connect to real-life.
