This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My sweet first graders live in a low-income, high poverty area where they face many challenges in their daily lives. Our school provides free and reduced lunch for 99% of our students. While they may struggle at home, they always come into the classroom with a smile on their face and a positive attitude. My students know that the classroom is their safe place, where they can come each day to learn and leave their worries at the door.

My Project
Every morning we start our day with breakfast in the classroom. For some students, this meal is the first meal they have had since lunch at school the day before. It is important that I provide the nutrients they need to allow their bodies and brains to focus throughout the day without thinking about when they will get a chance to fill their bellies again.
My students come from a high poverty neighborhood located in Arizona.
My students will benefit from the healthy snacks during our afternoon snack time we have each day when I am able to provide snacks for them. Asking families for donations is not possible due to financial hardships my families face.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
