My Students

“Health is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind and spirit. When one is free from physical disabilities and mental distractions, the gates of the soul open.” ~B.K.S. Iyengar

My students are smart, driven, and very verbal.

They are 100% Hispanic. Most of them do not have a computer or other technology at home. They are exposed to violence and socioeconomic limitations, like lack of food, that others take for granted. Our school provides a safe environment away from gangs and other socioeconomic limitations. In my classroom, they get to dream; the sky is the limit. They've planned future travel plans, designed their dream homes, and have become celebrated community heroes. The classroom is a safe haven where dreaming high is encouraged. Nothing is impossible when they dream, write, and share their future plans. They would thrive as enthusiastic learners if they are provided with the memories that will last a lifetime. They will experience and recollect their memories in a whole new way.

My Project

Teachers have high expectations and require that students perform well in all academic subjects. We want them to succeed and be engaged most of the time spent in the classroom. But we fail to think that they lack life essentials like snacks that allow them to concentrate and be life-long learners. Thus, I am requesting snacks that I can provide for my students when they simply have not had enough to eat. It is unfortunate, but for some of our students the only meals they receive are at school. As the school provides breakfast and lunch, I want to be able to provide a snack that they can have the option of taking to recess, lunch, & home for the evening or as an after school pick me up. This way, when they are in school, they can focus on learning & not worry about being hungry. I know this is a short term answer to a long term problem; but, as long as they are able to concentrate & perform better, any attempt is worth trying. The hand sanitizer will keep my students' hands germ-free.

A donation towards this project will help reduce food insecurities for some of our students.

It will allow my students to focus on learning rather than on hunger pains. It will help them keep their energy and their spirits up. Most importantly, it will communicate to our students that the we feel it is important that their needs are met, both academically and personally.
