Life Essentials: Healthy Food for Growing Bodies & Minds
My students need life essentials: healthy snacks and breakfast foods to help them be alert and ready to learn all day long. They need Nature Valley Granola Bars, Anderson Pretzels Mini Pretzels, Quaker Oatmeal Express, and others to stay focused in class.

My Students
For many of my students, the free & reduced lunches & breakfasts are their only reliable meals of the day. As growing middle schoolers, my students need additional nutrition to help feed their growing bodies and minds.
My students are special needs middle schoolers in a highest poverty school.
In the mornings and mid-afternoons especially, they are often hungry and this obviously impacts their focus in the classroom. I purchase snacks out of pocket, but having a steady supply of healthy nutritious snacks would really boost their performance and also help teach them about wise snack choices. I plan on incorporating the snack choices in lesson plans.
My Project
Several students arrive late and miss the free and reduced breakfast the school serves. For these students I've requested the oatmeal.
For both mornings and afternoons, I'm focusing on wise food choices both to feed them in a healthy manner and also to role model a healthy snack choice. But I'm also constrained by storage logistics; As much as I'd like to serve them fresh fruit, for instance, I have nowhere to keep it. Also, I must take into account food allergies, so I avoid all nuts and peanuts. This is why I am requesting healthy snacks like Nature Valley Granola Bars, Anderson Mini Pretzels, Quaker Oatmeal Express, and so much more in order for my students to stay focused in class.
It would be a godsend to be able to feed the students a breakfast snack and a late afternoon snack for their growing bodies and minds!
I think they'd love it and it would really help their focus and their self-esteem, as well as giving them lifelong lessons on healthy choices. Having these life essentials would help them soar!
