This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are all Hispanic. Most of them do not have a computer or other technology at home. They are exposed to violence and socioeconomic limitations like lack of food or resources others take for granted. Our school provides a safe environment away from gangs and other socioeconomic limitations. In my classroom, my students get to dream with the sky as the limit. They've planned future traveling plans, designed their dream homes, and have become celebrated community heroes. The classroom is a safe haven where dreaming big is encouraged. Nothing is impossible when they dream, write, and share their future plans. They will thrive as enthusiastic learners when they are provided with memories that will last a lifetime. They will experience and recollect their memories in a whole new way.
My Project
Teachers have high expectations and require that students perform well in all academic subjects. We want our students to succeed and be engaged most of the time spent in the classroom. But we fail to think that they lack life essentials like thermal t-shirts that allow them to concentrate and be life-long learners. Thus, I am requesting French Toast Big Kids' Thermal Tee Shirt, to provide for my students when their parents simply cannot make ends meet. It is unfortunate, but for some of my students the only thing that protects them from the cold weather is a shirt. As the school provides breakfast and lunch, I want to be able to provide more than that - a simple thermal long sleeved t-shirts that they can have and wear under their t-shirts. This way, when they are in school, my students can focus on learning and not worry about being cold. I know this is a short term answer to a long term problem; but, as long as they are able to concentrate & perform better, any attempt is worth trying. The thermals will help them keep their energy and their spirits up. Most importantly, it will communicate to students that we feel it is important that their needs are met, both academically and personally.
