My Students

Life essentials like food, water, and personal hygiene products are critical to supporting high-need students throughout their school day. Having the ability to provide our young adults with nutritious snacks will greatly improve day to day functioning.

Our school is a highest-need high school in an urban city.

We provide a safe, therapeutic environment within a large high school for our students to receive a wide-range of services aimed at supporting in their emotional and academic lives. Our young people have experienced a wide range of mental health and/or socio-emotional difficulties that challenged their schooling, in addition to learning disabilities, psychiatric hospitalizations, and/or difficult home life. Providing access to a range of Life Essentials like food, water, cleaning supplies and personal hygiene products to help take focus off basic needs and refocus on academics.

My Project

Our students often come to school hungry, either due to not eating breakfast or traveling for significant periods of time to get to school. Easy, safe snacks like Nutrigrain and granola bars can be the difference between a young person being focused, alert, and productive in early morning classes or not. Utensils and plates encourage students to bring in food from home and reheating healthier foods in our community microwave. Personal hygiene products like deodorant, hand sanitizer, and tissues encourage regular and effective care for themselves. Cleaning supplies are used as a teachable moment for students to clean community spaces like classrooms, the refrigerator, and microwave.

This Life Essentials project will immediately improve the lives of our high school aged students by providing the necessary food, water, cleaning supplies and personal hygiene products that cover their basic needs so they can focus on school.

By eliminating the worry and stress of managing hunger and hygiene, students will be able and ready to engage with their education.
