This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Everyday my twenty-two second grade students come ready to learn. I expect all students not only to get the best education they can but to feel good about themselves while doing it. Teaching them health lessons about good personal hygiene, is an essential life skill.
My class consists of twenty-two Latino students who live in a low socio-economic demographic in the heart of Los Angeles.
They all receive free school breakfast and lunches. Even though we are a large school, we are tightly knit. The staff, parents, and students are very dedicated in providing a nurturing and safe environment where they can learn.
My Project
My students need toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss for day to day oral hygiene at home. These personal hygiene items will help students live a healthier lifestyle. As students learn the importance of good oral hygiene through our health unit, it will ensure students are ready everyday. Students have many meaningful conversations orally but tend to get teased if they do not have fresh breath. So having these life essentials will definitely boost their self-esteem.
Receiving these life essentials will help students have better hygiene, boost their self esteem and learn life skills.
In this health unit, they will learn how having healthy gums and teeth will not only help you have a better smile but be a better and healthier self.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
