This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

It is a dream to think all students come to school clean, well-fed, and ready to learn. However, the reality is, that most of our students come in wishing they had life's essential needs.

My class is an eager group of fifth graders who love learning.

We are a group of Title 1 students that have many learning needs from gifted to special needs. Many of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. I have brought in snacks in the past, and I have students who eat their snack right away because they're so excited about getting something, but I have other students who save it and hold on to it just in case they don't have food later in the day.

My Project

Students cannot focus or work well when they are hungry. Having healthy snacks available to them as needed, will help increase the focus on their work, rather than their hunger. If a student is hungry they will be able to choose an energy bar, crackers with hummus, beef jerky, or even soup, to eat it in class and get back to work. Snacks will be available to the students as they are leaving class for the day so that they have something substantial to help them throughout their afternoon/evening.

This project will make a difference in my class by improving my students' needs with healthy snacks.

My students will not have to admit to not having a snack or food to satisfy their hunger pains and they can focus on their learning. Having healthy nutritious snacks like beef jerky, cheese crackers, energy bars, even soup, available for my students will show them that we care about their needs being met. If their stomachs are full they will have an easier time focusing on their learning.
