Life Essentials: Backpacks for High School Students

My students need nine backpacks to encourage them to take carry their books and homework to and from school.

My Students

I have the most spunky, creative students this side of the Mississippi, and there is never a dull moment in my classroom. Three of the courses I teach are composition classes, which are writing intensive. My students joke that after completing one of my writing courses, they have the stamina to each write their own novel. I have high expectations, but my students always exceed them (and we have a lot of fun too). Their writing makes me laugh, cry, think, and question. I would not trade this group of writers for anything.

My Project

With all the reading and writing my students do, I'm surprised that some of them do not have quality backpacks to carry their books and other materials to and from school.

At times I am overwhelmed by the needs of my students and their families, but this is one problem that you and I can solve together.

Some students are ashamed to carry the used, hand-me-down backpacks that are available to them. Having a "cool" brand-new backpack to transport school materials will encourage students to take their homework home, and their homework and books are more likely to find their way back to school if students have a designated place, like a backpack, to keep their items.

Please consider helping to fulfill this essential need. Because of your donation, my students will be more likely to do their homework and to read school materials at home.
