My Students
I teach in an inner-city school system. My students come to school with many difficulties and issues. It is important for them to have the opportunity to experience and observe first hand the life cycle of animals so that they can relate it to the lessons we do in class.
My students are low income inner-city students with a passion for learning and experiencing new things.
I want to get them excited about learning by allowing them to experience first hand the life cycles of different animals. I also want them to learn how to take care of these animals. Many of my students do not get the opportunity to experience the type of animals I am exposing them to and I want them to have many experiences with many different animals.
My Project
I will use the live animals to inspire my students to learn and expand their knowledge about various animals. We will hatch chicken and duck eggs and raise them in class. We will also learn about the life cycles of butterflies, lady bugs, ants, guppies, tadpoles, and crayfish. By helping my students get these resources you will be enhancing their learning experience and get them excited about learning.
This project is important to me because I believe it is important to help my students make real and lasting connections to what we learn in class.
Without these live animals students would only be able to read about the animals in books or watch videos about them. First hand experiences make a lasting impression and help to get the students excited about learning.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
