Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a group of motivated learners who come from a classroom environment where their life dreams are ambitious and inspiring even at the age of six or seven. With the age group in mind, they typically have just a little bit of extra energy compared to other grades because this year is considered a transition year into more rigorous instruction, preparing them for success in third grade.
They are known for never being shy to participate or to lend a helping hand to a fellow student in need.
My Project
Having pillows, soft seats, and dry erase boards will allow for my students to be provided with the tools to have unique learning experience that will benefit them best. Individualized learning is crucial to my students because some of my students need the unique accommodations above so that they are able to thrive in the classroom.
Using pillows for readers to lounge on during independent reading will encourage an environment that allows for literacy to be viewed as a valuable and enjoyable experience.
By having a sense of comfort in my classroom through the pillows, it will allow students to feel at home in my classroom.
Wiggle Chairs (soft seats) would be helpful in my classroom to allow for students who have a little extra energy to be able to slightly bounce on their chair without distracting their peers. I have personally seen them work well with students who struggle with paying attention. This is because the wiggle chairs allow them to fidget, but also pay attention to lessons daily.
Dry erase boards would be crucial to have in my classroom because my students thrive representing their answers in multiple responses when asked a question. It would benefit them to have these during mathematics by allowing the students to complete their work using a dry erase marker, which adds some creativity to the lesson. It also aids me in the ability to track their progress by having them hold up their dry erase boards after a question is posed.
