Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Students love solving problems and role-playing. A problem-based approach often helps students to work on collaboration and real-world problems, and engage with content while developing important industry skills.
With this kit, students will take on the role of pharmaceutical drug developers and tackle the problem of the prevention of the flu.
This mini-simulation lab will give students a glimpse into what it takes to find an appropriate drug and test for its effectiveness. I hope that it will give them an idea of other careers in the health field such as lab technicians and drug development.
I also requested some bacteria testing kits so students can see that there are multiple ways to test for the presence of bacteria. We currently do one method that uses agar, but the test strips will allow me to discuss bacteria by-products. This will allow for more advanced knowledge and thinking skills to be practiced while still having a hands-on component.
