Help me give my students a mixing board to make podcasts. Light boxes to draw and make flipbooks. Makey Makey kits to experiment with, and locks and boxes to create their own escape rooms.
My students attend an urban, public school district where 60% receive free or reduced-price lunch. We went through remote learning for the ending of one year and two-thirds of the next. Students missed big mile-stone events, friendships, normal class, and the safety and security that comes from a classroom community dedicated to helping one another.
I want to help our students by bringing them together through teamwork and collaborative, creative learning strategies.
My Project
The thing I did during remote learning last year that had the biggest positive impact on my students' social and emotional health was invent "Class Clubs." Students could pursue any interest, use creativity to explore, and socialize at the same time.
These materials will help my students create their own escape rooms, make flipbooks, draw on lightboards to hone their artistic skills, create stop-film animation movies, create podcasts or videos complete with sound-effects from the mixing board, turn a banana into a piano, or draw their own game controller that actually works!
I wanted to get a mix of materials that would lend themselves to much creativity and exploration in my classroom.
We have class clubs once a week and kids look forward to this hour almost more than anything else. It's a creative, relaxing time to socialize while they create.
