Who wants to read a book that is older than the librarian? Interesting books and current reference materials make children want to read. An exciting library collection can benefit the entire school.
My students come from diverse cultures and speak a variety of different languages.
The majority of the students face economic challenges, and frequently move from place to place.
I love to see their smiling faces in the library before the start of school. I frequently see older children helping the younger children select books or even take the time to read to a beginning reader. The students help to create a strong community in their neighborhood.
My Project
Students in the upper grades participate in a month long research project in the library. Third grade students will be focusing on researching science topics that will be taught during our science program. Students will use the colorful new reference materials and subject books to build background knowledge for science. Fourth grade students will research weather and geology. The new books and science charts will provide current information to enhance their knowledge. Fifth grade students will be participating in a biography project. The new biography books will add diversity to our current collection.
The library currently has 16 student computers. I have request four laptop computers to help with research. Both books and computers are used for our research projects. Computers are also used to produce a finished project. Students use a variety of programs such as Photostory, Publisher, and Gloggster to produce a product that can demonstrate their new knowledge.
The library is a great place to add school resources because it benefits all students.
The library learning environment is a place where students, teachers, and librarian can collaborate on in-depth projects.
