Library Research Comes Alive!

My Students

The life of an elementary librarian is fun, exciting and, most importantly, rewarding. I love the fact that I teach every child in the school, and I have the opportunity to watch them grow each year. Plus, it gives me the ability to build a curriculum that doesn't end at the end of the year.

My students come from diverse cultures and speak a variety of different languages.

The majority of the students face economic challenges and frequently move from place to place. I love to see their smiling faces in the library before the start of school. I frequently see older children helping the younger children select books or even take the time to read to a beginning reader. The students help to create a strong community in their neighborhood

My Project

I am requesting seven iPad minis with cases for student research lessons. The iPads can be used to research science topics, but, most importantly, students can create multimedia posters, iMovies, book trailers, and other presentations. Students will be able to showcase their research skills while learning how to present information to others. Students in grades 3 through 5 participate in a yearly research project that includes the school librarian and classroom teacher. Many times, the classroom teacher is learning new technology skills alongside their students.

The library is a great place to add school resources because it benefits all students.

The iPad minis will be able to be checked out by the classroom teachers for classroom use. The library learning environment is a place where students, teachers, and librarian can collaborate on in-depth projects. Teachers who learn new technology during research collaboration are able to continue the learning process back in the classroom.
