Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a group of curious kindergarteners in an urban neighborhood in Southern California. For most, this will be their first year in school. This school year has been very different because of remote learning. However, my students continue to be resilient, and the learning has continued. My school is a Title I school located in a working-class neighborhood. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My Project
These materials will help me create a classroom library for my students where they will be able to read books throughout the day. Currently, our classroom does not have a library area where students can sit or lay with a good book as they practice their reading and develop a joy for reading. These items will create a welcoming space for students to use in the classroom. They will be able to pick up books of interest and this will aid them in improving their reading fluency. The students will also be able to have a space to share books with friends.
