My Project

Our little school is special! Everyone who ever comes to our school remarks about the unique nature of the community involvement that abounds within our walls. You can't have this school without the community, and you can't have the community without the school. Nestled comfortably inside a low income neighborhood, right across the street from the city park where kids go when the bell rings, our school is a pillar of the community.

Every year we put on several community outreach events, but there is no event bigger than the Community Book Drive.

This event is coordinated through the library and is an event solely designed to bring the community together. Every year families who have kids that attend our school, and families that don't, are welcome to come into our school and peruse the books that have been donated. Our goal is that every child who walks into our doors will leave with a book in their hands, and the knowledge that literacy will open doors for them.

My goal for this DonorsChoose project is to compile as many step into reading books that I can in order to donate them to the community. This donation will be coming directly from my students so that they can see an active example of what it means to volunteer for their community and to give back to them. I want my students to see that books and the joy of reading can bring mental wellness to all those fortunate enough to be given that gift.
