My students need clay, clay cutter, adhesive, and sealer to decorate the library as their senior sponsored legacy. The art and library classes will combine to discuss sculpture and museums.
Art enables "us to see the world and the human condition differently ... to see a truth we might not have understood before." Tom Cronin understand the basic need we have as humans to create. Students will leave their footprints behind as they move ahead into new experiences.
My fourth grade students are our seniors.
The lower grades look up to them for guidance and they would like to leave a legacy of art behind them. The students do not have the resources to create great works and as they step into a new role they would like to leave their footprints behind for others to walk in. They want to lead the students following them into their new roles as examples. These students have great heart and strive for excellence.
My Project
Our students do not often have the opportunity to explore other cultures. They do not get the opportunity to create their own culture. This project will allow them to expand their horizons by expressing themselves through art. We are a small Title I school with limited funds for art and an awesome art teacher who inspires them to create regularly. I am requesting Mexican air-dry clay, materials to cut the clay, mount the clay and seal the clay onto a piece of painted wood. The students will place their sneaker print to represent their footprint on our school and they path they leave behind for others to follow. Those tiles will be dried, sealed and mounted in the library as an inspiration to others to leave their mark on our school. We will use art sculpture from other cultures to explain the process of leaving one's mark for those who follow and learn from us.
Our students live in a very small and often closed community with little opportunity to engage in other cultures.
Through the lessons and physical creation of art they will understand how similar they are to others who appear dissimilar. My students need to understand the connectedness we share with the world seemingly so far away.
