Help me give my students new diverse books to expand our classroom library.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Pena's classroom raised $778

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My fourth-grade tinkerers are part of an amazing school in Brooklyn, New York. Our thriving community has big hopes and dreams, but our students don’t always have access to essential learning materials. Some of them face additional challenges, as they are second language learners. In spite of these roadblocks, my students are enthusiastic scholars with boundless curiosity and creativity! Their zest for exploring and learning continually renews my own passion for learning and reminds me why I love my job.
My Project
This project was created to add more diverse books to our classroom library! Providing diverse books will allow students the opportunity to connect in a meaningful way to a global community. According to Webster's Dictionary, the concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect. It means understanding that each individual is unique, and recognizing our individual differences.
Books can be like mirrors that provide an opportunity for students to see themselves in the literature.
Adding diverse books to our classroom, such as Water Protectors, Same, Same, But Different, and many more will provide more "mirrors" and windows in our classroom!
More than a third of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
