My students need a variety of books to spark their continued interest in reading and have choices for reading. They also need fun and engaging books to read for our book clubs!

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book." Within my third grade classroom, we create an environment that helps students fall in love with reading. By having a library of books and a focus of enjoyment of reading rather than tests, students discover the world of books.
My third grade students through the last couple years have come to love reading.
Students would come in hating reading, finding it difficult or just boring. By the end of the year, I couldn't get them to put a book down! A huge part of this has to do with not focusing on the tests for the books. I focus on their comprehension through letters to me and individual meetings, which they really enjoy!
My Project
By growing our library, I can ensure that the right book will fall into the right child's hands. When a child is in an environment that focuses on a love of reading, the right book in their hands creates a spark that cannot be extinguished. These new books will be available to my present students as well as my past students who still stop by to borrow books from me. My classes treasure these books, and although they can be worn down, they are still loved by my avid readers. They learn responsibility and care with our library and understand that the books are meant to be shared and cared for.
Having new books in our library will not only grow my students' enthusiasm for reading but will also spark reading interest for my new students to come!
Books ranging from chapter books to graphic novels will not only spur interest in reading but also encourage students to read a variety of books rather than just one genre. It will help create better readers and lifelong lovers of books.
