My Students
A typical day in the classroom has students completing their tasks and running to the library to read on bins and a small carpet. A student once said, "I feel relaxed. When I’m relaxed I’m more ready to learn.” Students should feel comfortable at the library when they are learning on their own.
Students are a group of gifted scholars who love to create things from scratch.
They come from a vast range of cultures and are accepting of one another. These students have been with each other since Kindergarten. They work really well in groups and love to use technology to enrich and support their learning in the classroom. They all have their own sense of humor that brings life to the classroom.
My school is a small family where there is a ton of support for new teachers like myself. There are only two classes per grade. Our school's focus this year is preparing students to be college-ready and having students engage in discussion in every lesson and subject. We use technology for meetings, sharing documents, data, and classroom interaction.
My Project
Students will use and benefit from a carpet and bean bags because currently in the library there is small carpet that only seats about six children, which is only 18% of the students. Students are excited that they can sit there but are often discouraged when there is not enough room or the bins are uncomfortable. If students have a large enough rug and comfortable bean bags, the majority of students will be able to enjoy the comfort of moving from their seats at their desks.
This project will improve my classroom because this will encourage more movement: not only during independent reading, but also when students are working in groups and on projects.
They will be able to change their physical environment and be more comfortable as they complete their tasks.
