My Students
The students in our school community are growing up in one of the most dangerous cities in the nation. All come from low-income homes and receive 3 free meals during the school day. Many families are unable to provide their children with necessary school supplies and do not have access to books at home.
Our school is a second home for these children, and it is my goal to make our classroom a warm, safe, and comfortable environment for all who enter.
Please help me provide materials for my students that will help them grow as lifelong learners.
My Project
These books will help to fill out our small classroom library with characters, authors, and heroes with whom my students can identify. Surrounding my students with literature that features characters of varying heritages, skin color, and orientation will not only help them feel more at home in our classroom, it will also help foster a love of reading.
At a young age, I want these children to know that their stories matter.
They need more opportunities to see themselves represented in the books in their classroom. Through this more diverse classroom library, I hope to grow a community where we celebrate differences and see the value in one another.
