My students need flexible seating options in the library that is easy to move as the library is used for a variety of activities.

My Students

There are students at this 6th - 8th grade middle school in Iowa that come from a high poverty area of our town. Many of these students have not had opportunities to have rich experiences to expand their prior knowledge . We have a population where 56% of our students receive free or reduced lunches. We want to provide opportunities for our students to see the world not only from their perspective, but have the experiences to see issues and viewpoints from perspectives different from their own.

My Project

Students have been meeting in the library as a library advisory to discuss what are some of the needs of this specific library. One issue brought up by several groups is the need for more seating. We need seating that is not only comfortable; but easy to move as we have a lot of groups in the library and we reconfigure the space as needed.

These chairs would allow us to have an area for students to drop in and read; or work on projects.

They are also easy to stack for when there are larger events in the library; such as the book fair or staff meetings.
