My students need a variety of board games to play in the media center so that they can enjoy the space beyond the books.

My Students
Every student visits the school's library media center and with a diverse population, meeting every student's needs is critical. Our school is set in a suburban/urban setting so the population can accurately be classified as diverse ethnically, socio-economically, mentally, academically, and artistically.
Most students are intimidated by the library if they aren't readers.
This will give students a comfortable opportunity to come to the library and enjoy the relaxing and fun atmosphere that a library can provide to readers and non readers.
My Project
I would like to get a few games for the library so that children can come in and play during lunch time, free time or after school. The games I am requesting include dominos, checkers and Jenga. These children will begin to feel more comfortable in the library which will encourage them to come back and check out books.
Students will be able to enjoy the library even if they aren't readers.
This will also foster collaboration between students as they "play" educational and strategic games together. It will also help them build communication skills as they discuss the best way to win.
After a few times in the library, my hope is that children will feel comfortable to come back and experience different aspects of the library.
