My Students

Here are the facts: Experts believe that if obesity among children continues to increase, our current generation of children will become the first in American history to live shorter lives than their parents!! Save our children! Knowledge and reading about fun activities can help!

Our students are part of a moderate income community.

Most students come from homes where both parents are working. Our students are aged 3-8 and many experience sedentary lifestyles due to a love of video games and TV! They need to become aware of healthy, outdoor activities that are fun and accessible for them! Over the past four decades, obesity rates have soared among children of all age groups, increasing nearly five-fold among those ages 6-11. Libraries and schools must provide students with ideas and knowledge about healthy and fun activities for young students to get them up and moving!!

My Project

Imagine driving home from work and seeing children playing outside! Bikes zooming up and down the sidewalks, children in community parks and fields playing outdoor games such as soccer, baseball, and football!

The materials being requested such as books on swimming, hockey, yoga, and team sports help students to learn that activity and healthy choices can be enjoyable and healthy!

Team sports can build character, responsibility, and sportsmanship.

These are things of the past, and unfortunately our childhood obesity rates are rising at an alarming rate. Over the past four decades, obesity rates have soared among children of all age groups, increasing nearly five-fold among those ages 6-11. My students need books that encourage them to read, be health conscious, and enjoy outdoor activities.
