My Students
My students are a diverse group of thinkers and learners who come together in the spirit of learning. We are a public, urban Montessori middle school, and, as a school that opened five years ago, we are still emerging and growing as a community. We are located in a historically diverse and low-income community. Seventy-seven percent of our students receive free and reduced-price lunch.
My students love reading!
They come to middle school with an enthusiasm for their educations and form a strong community. Our Montessori classroom experience is focused on educating the whole child and creating lifelong learners.
My Project
Reading can open our eyes to worlds and perspectives outside of our own experience. Books can also reflect our own lives, helping us to better understand our own lives. As a reading teacher, I am always striving to diversify our classroom library so that students can expand their understanding of themselves and their world.
Our classroom library needs books with LGBT characters to help students expand their understanding of themselves and their world.
All students, especially those who struggle to see themselves reflected in the books they read, benefit from a diverse classroom library. Adding these books to our library will help engage my students in books and cultivate a lifelong love of reading.
