Leverage 3D Printing for Creative, STEM, and Business Projects!

Help me give my students increased access to 3D printing tools for custom classroom manipulatives, incentives, creativity, mental health, engineering, and entrepreneurship.

My Project

We will use the 3D printer for the creation of classroom manipulatives like complex solids for our AP Calculus class, incentives like medals, and even functional computer mice, and rapid prototyping for some of our creative students' robotics and business ideas. We procured a 3D printer last year, and as a performance incentive and stress reliever, many students have been given shoulder massager pens and pencil attachments. Other students who score perfect scores on midterms and final exams receive fully functional and customized wireless computer mice. We have printed Halloween decorations for school morale, fractional poker chips as pre-algebra comprehension manipulatives, and chess sets.

As a result, many of our students developed a genuine curiosity for 3D printing for STEM and business projects, but do not have access to enough 3D printers.

We are therefore asking for another 3D printer and assorted filament, so that we can continue to improve the morale, comprehension, and creative outlook of many of our disenfranchised and marginalized scholars. The presence of our first 3D printer in the classroom was a major point of curiosity and improved attendance in the AP math classroom. For many of our students, and for their first time, they had a reason to come to school other than for academics or at the behest of their parents.

Our goals for this 3D printer are to A. expand on our print-as-incentive policy, create larger and more complex shapes for the AP Calculus class, B. print student science and history projects like Bohr-Models and avocado boats or model landmarks and busts of historical figures, and C. increase access to rapid prototyping for the students and young entrepreneurs interested in STEM or just want to prototype their creations and test their respective markets, just to name a few.
