Leveling the Court: Club Basketball Access Without the Club Price

Help me give my students Jerseys so our girls can represent themselves and their school in basketball tournaments, without the high cost of club fees that many can’t afford.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are talented, driven, and passionate about sports. They come from a vibrant, all-girls school community where they are taught to lead, dream big, and challenge inequity. Many of these young athletes have the skill and the heart to compete beyond school sports, but economic barriers often stand in the way. This project aims to provide athletic jerseys so our girls can proudly participate in after school led basketball tournaments and competitions without having to pay out of pocket for private club team fees. Local club basketball costs often range from $1,000–$2000 per season, covering uniforms, travel, caching, and tournament entries. This pricing excludes many of our students—especially students of color—from high-level play.

We want to break that barrier and create a space where racial equity and athletic talent meet.

We are requesting: Matching basketball jerseys.

By creating a school-affiliated basketball club, our goal is to:

Provide a free alternative to expensive private clubs

Offer students of color greater access to competitive play

Represent our school and Latin community proudly in local tournaments

Build leadership, teamwork, and confidence through sport

With your help, we will:

Eliminate pay-to-play barriers

Create a basketball program where all are welcome, not just those who can afford it

Let our girls show up to competitions with pride, confidence, and a strong sense of identity
