Listening to your teacher read a great book is always good, but being able to read a book by yourself is an amazing feeling and can be monumental!
I teach first graders in an inner city public school.
Our school is on the right track to becoming very successful in our area, but we still need a little help. The students in my classroom are energetic kids who want nothing more than to learn and enjoy coming to school each day.
My Project
Many students in my classroom only have access to a handful of books and many are too difficult for them to read at such a young age. While there are many books in our classroom library, most are used for teacher read-alouds and enjoyment. With your support, you can help fill our classroom library with books that are on-level and appropriate. Allowing students to feel empowered because they are successful at reading a book on their own is one of the most powerful gifts you can give a child. The smile of achievement that they will have after reading on their own can only cause them to want to read more, and what could be better than that?
The gift of a book is something that can be treasured forever.
And the ability to know how to read is something that no one can ever take away from you. The leveled books that you provide will allow my students to become more independent readers and more successful students overall!
