My Students
I work at a Title I school located within the Mount Vernon City School District. Many of our students within our school community are homeless or displaced. Even though our students face many hardships, there is one constant factor, their love of learning. I currently have a classroom of 16 uniquely incredible students. Each one of my students learns in different ways and at different paces.
To describe a little further, of the 16 scholars within my class, four are English Language learners, one receives resource services, four of the students receive pull-out Academic Intervention Services and three students receive speech services.
They all have a positive attitude about learning and do their personal best to contribute to our classroom community.
My Project
The resources that were selected for my project include box sets of Level A books, Level B books, Level C books, and Level D books.
I think that these materials will not only help with my students reading and comprehension skills, but it will also aid in their ability to write independently.
I want my students to be able to "go shopping" for books on their independent level so they are provided with "choice" in the classroom community. We are lacking resources in our building, and our students need to have actual books in their hands to get the full experience of colored pictures and child friendly printing. These materials will also help in a teacher-led guided reading station and will allow us to focus on specific strategies and skills they can use during independent reading later on.
